Community Guidelines

Last updated: January 21, 2026

Komrade is built for students to connect, share, and collaborate freely. These guidelines help maintain a space where open expression thrives while protecting fundamental human rights. For the full legal terms, see our Terms of Service.

Our Philosophy

We believe in minimal platform interference and maximum student autonomy. Communities govern themselves. The Platform only steps in when basic human rights are at stake or when the Platform itself is under attack.

Content Freedom

You can post freely on Komrade. Share your thoughts, debate ideas, create content, and express yourself. We don't police opinions, restrict viewpoints, or moderate based on controversy. The only mandatory requirement is labeling NSFW content in the global feed.

NSFW Content

NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content must be labeled when posted to the global feed. This is the only content labeling requirement on the Platform.

  • Global feed: NSFW content must be labeled
  • Communities: Follow each community's own rules on NSFW labeling

Failure to label NSFW content in the global feed may result in immediate account termination.

What We Prohibit

We prohibit content that infringes on basic human rights or targets individuals based on who they are. This is not about disagreement or offense—it's about protecting human dignity.

Absolutely Prohibited

  • Child sexual abuse material or any sexual content involving minors
  • Content targeting people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or other inherent characteristics
  • Content promoting violence, genocide, human trafficking, or torture
  • Doxxing or sharing private information without consent
  • Coordinated harassment campaigns
  • Content designed to dehumanize, threaten, or incite harm against any person or group

Also Not Allowed

  • Impersonating other people or organizations
  • Distributing malware or spam
  • Using the Platform for illegal activities
  • Bypassing Platform safeguards

Communities

Communities are self-governing spaces with their own rules and moderation. When you join a community, you agree to follow that community's rules in addition to these guidelines.

  • Community rules apply only within that community
  • Platform staff don't intervene in community disputes unless these guidelines are violated
  • Disagreement with community moderation is not grounds for platform intervention
  • Abuse of reporting tools or moderation powers is a platform-level violation

For Community Creators & Moderators

Running a community comes with responsibility. You have broad authority over your space, but that authority has limits.

Your Authority

  • Set your own rules for content, behavior, and participation
  • Decide NSFW labeling requirements for your community
  • Remove content and ban users who violate your rules
  • Appoint and remove other moderators
  • Shape the culture and direction of your community

Your Responsibilities

  • Make your rules clear and accessible to members
  • Enforce rules consistently and fairly
  • Remove content that violates Platform-wide prohibited content rules
  • Not use your community to coordinate violations of these guidelines

What You Cannot Do

  • Allow prohibited content (human rights violations, CSAM, etc.) regardless of community rules
  • Use moderation powers for harassment or personal vendettas
  • Weaponize your community against individuals, other communities, or the Platform
  • Deceive members about the nature or rules of your community

Inactive Communities

Communities with inactive moderation may be subject to reassignment or removal if they become vectors for prohibited content or platform abuse.

Platform Integrity

Don't attack the Platform, its infrastructure, staff, or communities through abuse or malicious activity. This includes:

  • Attempting to disrupt Platform operations
  • Filing false reports
  • Circumventing safeguards or bans
  • Harassing Platform staff

Abuse may result in suspension, permanent bans, or legal action.

Enforcement

We enforce these guidelines proportionally. Minor issues may receive warnings. Serious violations—especially those involving prohibited content—may result in immediate and permanent removal without warning.

We don't proactively monitor all content. We rely on user reports and automated detection for the most serious violations.

Questions?

If you're unsure whether something violates these guidelines, err on the side of caution or reach out to us. We'd rather help you understand the rules than deal with violations after the fact.
