Terms of Service
Last updated: January 21, 2026
Welcome to Komrade, a networking platform for higher education students. By using the Platform, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Platform.
1. Eligibility
The Platform is strictly for students aged 18 and over enrolled in universities, colleges, or other higher learning institutions. Users under 18 may only use the Platform with explicit authorization from a parent or legal guardian. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet these requirements. By using the Platform, you represent that the information you provide is accurate and truthful.
2. Account Security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use or security breach. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
3. Acceptable Use
The Platform supports open student expression, collaboration, and information sharing. Users may post any type of content freely. Content within communities is subject to that community's own rules and moderation.
NSFW Content
NSFW (Not Safe For Work) content must be labeled as such when posted to the global feed. Within communities, NSFW labeling follows the community's own rules. This is the only mandatory labeling requirement on the Platform. Failure to label NSFW content in the global feed may result in immediate termination.
Prohibited Content
Prohibited content is anything that infringes on basic human rights or targets individuals based on inherent characteristics. This includes but is not limited to:
- Child sexual abuse material or sexual content involving minors
- Content targeting people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics
- Content promoting violence, genocide, human trafficking, or torture
- Doxxing, sharing private information without consent, or coordinated harassment
- Content designed to dehumanize, threaten, or incite harm against any person or group
Platform Integrity
Do not target the Platform itself, its infrastructure, staff, or communities through abuse or malicious activity. This includes disruption attempts, false reporting, circumventing safeguards, or harassment of staff. Abuse may result in suspension, bans, or legal action.
Illegal Use
You agree not to use the Platform to:
- Engage in or promote illegal activities
- Harass, threaten, or target individuals or groups
- Impersonate any person or organization
- Distribute malware or spam
- Bypass Platform safeguards
4. User Content
You retain ownership of content you post. By posting, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to host, display, and distribute it solely for operating and improving the Platform. You are solely responsible for your content and its legality. We reserve the right to remove content that violates these Terms or applicable laws.
5. Communities
Communities have their own rules. By joining, you agree to follow that community's rules in addition to these Terms. Community rules apply only within their respective spaces.
Platform staff do not intervene in community disputes unless Platform Rules or applicable law are violated. Disagreement with community moderation is not grounds for platform intervention. Abuse of reporting tools or moderation powers will be treated as a platform-level violation.
6. Privacy
Your use of the Platform is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your data.
7. Cooperation With Authorities
We do not proactively collaborate, share data, or coordinate with law enforcement, governments, or external authorities. Disclosure occurs only when strictly required by applicable law, valid legal process, or a binding court order. We provide only the minimum data necessary and seek to limit scope, protect privacy, and notify affected users where legally permitted.
8. Data Retention
We collect and retain the least amount of data necessary to operate the Platform. Personal data is retained only for as long as required, then deleted or anonymized. We do not retain data solely for future authority cooperation.
9. No Backdoors or Surveillance
We do not build, maintain, or provide backdoors, mass-surveillance mechanisms, or hidden access to user data. Technical access is strictly limited to what's required for platform operation and security.
10. Transparency
We may publish transparency reports summarizing requests for data removal or disclosure, subject to legal limitations. Reports may be aggregated and anonymized to protect user identities.
11. Jurisdiction
We respond only to legal requests valid under the laws of our operating jurisdiction. We do not recognize informal, extrajudicial, or cross-border requests lacking proper legal authority. Requests exceeding jurisdictional scope may be challenged or rejected.
12. Intellectual Property
The Platform, including its design, branding, and software, is owned by us or our licensors. You may not copy, modify, or distribute our intellectual property without prior written permission.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Platform at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if required by law. Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ends immediately.
14. Disclaimers
The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available". We make no guarantees regarding availability, accuracy, or reliability, and do not guarantee outcomes from networking or opportunities shared on the Platform.
15. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Platform.
16. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages, or expenses arising out of your use of the Platform or violation of these Terms.
17. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Platform after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
18. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by applicable law, without regard to conflict of law principles.
19. Third-Party Links
The Platform may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or availability of any third-party sites. Accessing external links is at your own risk.
20. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
21. Force Majeure
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performing our obligations due to events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, power outages, internet disruptions, or government actions.
22. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Komrade regarding your use of the Platform and supersede all prior agreements.
